Irish Nurse In Turkey Death Fall
A young Irishwoman has died after taking a fall during a holiday in Turkey.
The woman is believed to be Mary Linnane, and is understood to have fallen from the balcony of an apartment in the early hours of Tuesday morning while holidaying in the resort town of Kusadasi.
The trip was reported to be Ms Linnane's first holiday abroad.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family of the 20 year-old woman, from Belmullet in Co Mayo.
According to reports on Wednesday morning, the dead girl was a second-year student nurse at Dublin City University who was holidaying in the area with a large group of friends from the Ennis area.
The incident comes exactly a week after a woman was killed in a fall on the Greek island of Rhodes - around 50 miles from Turkey - while escaping from a building during an earthquake.
The local woman died in her home in the village of Archangelos after tripping on the staircase and fatally injuring her head during the quake. No other casualties have been reported.
Greek experts gave it a Richter magnitude of 6.3, while the U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude at 6.4.
The shock, at 6.20am was under the sea off Rhodes and caused little damage, but was widely felt across large parts of Turkey and as far away as Israel.
