Minister Of State Supports Communities In Dublin's Inner City

Irish Minister for Housing, Urban Renewal & Developing Areas Michael Finneran T.D. today visited communities in Dublin's inner city which are affected by the announcement by Dublin City Council that a number of public private partnership projects would not be going ahead as planned.

Minister Finneran, as he visited the estates at O'Devaney Gardens, Dominick Street, and St. Michael's Estate, met with and expressed his support for the residents and expressed hope that the involvement of the community in the regeneration process "will be rewarded at the end of the process with a new estate, new facilities, and above all else a vibrant and sustainable community".

The Minister noted that on two of the projects, Dominick Street, and St. Michael's Estate initial contact has already been made by the City Council with the second bidders involved in the procurement process.

The Minister also praised the City Council on their efforts to find alternative accommodation for the residents in these estates.

During the course of his walkabout the Minister also visited a prominent redevelopment project at Liberty House, off Sheriff Street where three of the six blocks have seen substantial internal and external works in recent years. Again, the contribution of the residents to the process was highlighted by the Minister.

"Having been made aware of the involvement of the local residents in the first phase I am optimistic that the next phase of the project would be as successful," concluded Minister Finneran.
