Sharp Decline In New Building Competitions: Report

New figures published today suggest the number of new buildings being constructed in Ireland has fallen by 57% in the first six months of 2008.

The findings were published by GeoDirectory, a joint venture between An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland that provides a complete database of buildings in the country.

The report claims that just over 26,000 commercial and residential buildings have been completed this year. This compares to more than 60,000 in the first six months of 2007.

Cork recorded the highest increase in completed new buildings with 3,000 being constructed, while at the other end of the scale Monaghan had the lowest rate at just 299 residential completions and 12 commercial properties.
