Grandmother Shot Through Window By Gang Members

Dublin's ongoing gang feud took a turn for the worse on Tuesday as a grandmother was shot through the front window of her house in broad daylight.

The victim, who is in her 50s, was looking after her baby grandson and elderly mother when gunmen fired a total of six bullets into the house during lunchtime, at Knocknarea Road, in Drimnagh, in southwest Dublin.

Two other women and a man were also in the house at the time.

Gardai believe the gunmen were looking for an associate of one of the gang leaders, a man who is currently in jail.

Three men in a silver coloured BMW car pulled up outside the house shortly before 1pm. Two of the men jumped out of the vehicle and fired three shots from a revolver into glass panels on the front door and another into the letterbox, before trying to kick it in.

One of the attackers then ran to the window firing two other shots into the house, hitting the victim.

The woman was taken to St James's Hospital where she was recovering from her injuries last night.

The gunmen made their getaway up Sperrin Road, through Errigal Road, and then onto Brandon Road.

Gardaí believe a white van was also involved in the incident. The driver is described as being 24-25 years old with short brown hair.

Witness provided descriptions of the two males in the silver BMW car, one being 5' 7'' tall, 17-20 years old, wearing a black 'floppy' hat. The second male is described as being 5' 5'', 17-20 years old with short brown hair and wearing a bright multicolored wast length jacket. The BMW car was later found near Walkinstown Rd with fake number plates.

Gardaí are asking anyone with information to come forward.
