Mobile Mania In Ireland

It's definitely 'good to talk' in Ireland, as the latest figures show that Irish people are becoming increasingly reliant on their mobile phones, with 52% of all the phone calls made in Ireland, being made on mobiles.

The latest figures from telecom regulator, the Commission for Communications Regulation, showed that there are now 5.4 million mobile phones in Ireland, for 4.2 million people.

The figures also showed that every minute of the day, more than 38,000 people are talking on their mobiles.

Texting is also becoming increasingly popular among Irish mobile users, with the figures showing that around 25 million text messages were sent every day in the first three months of 2008. This represents a 12% increase on the same period last year.

The ComReg report also showed that broadband take-up increased in Ireland by 12% in the first quarter of 2008.
