DSA To Put Emergency Stop On Illegal Driving Instructors
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has revealed they are investigating over 400 cases of illegal driving instructors in Ireland.
The department are also urging the general public to put a stop to unqualified driving instructors on our road by checking the instructor's credentials.
The DSA's Deputy Head of Fraud and Integrity, Michelle Moston, said: "If illegal instructors are on our roads they have not passed the Agency's rigorous three part test to ensure that they are meeting the highest standards of safety. This puts all our lives at risk.
The agency is working closely with police forces at national, regional and local levels and provisions under the Fraud Act 2006 mean the police now have increased powers to charge illegal instructors.
A spokesman for the DSA said: "It's very simple to check that your driving instructor is qualified. Ensure they display an in-date pink licence or green certificate in their wind screen and the badge matches the person providing the instruction.”
Anyone suspecting a driving instructor of operating illegally they can notify the DSA Fraud & Integrity Team by calling 02920 581155 or emailing integrity.team@dsa.gsi.gov.uk.
The DSA believes the proliferation of illegal driving instructors is a contributor to the level of road accidents in the Republic and is pursuing a policy of "Safe Driving for Life" with an overall mission of achieving a 40% reduction in riders and drivers killed or seriously injured in road accidents in under 25-year-olds by 2010.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. Fraud Offences Sees Largest Increase In Recorded Crime
Fraud offences saw the biggest increase in the year to June 2019, according to the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) Recorded Crime report. According to the report, the number of fraud offences recorded by An Garda Síochána rose by 34.4%; from 5,405 to 7,265 recorded incidents. The report also show that drug offences increased by 16.

TD's Son Jailed For Serious Motoring Offences
The son of Fianna Fail TD Sean Fleming has been put behind bars for almost two years for a number of serious motoring offences. Peter Fleming, 22, was also banned from driving for four years. He admitted charges of dangerous driving, drink-driving, hit and run, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and stealing a car.

Over 13,000 Without Electricity
So far around 13,000 people have been left without power as strong winds sweep across the country. The tail end of Hurricane Katia’s destruction has left Cavan, Longford, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal the worst hit by power outages. 2,000 customers in Dublin are also without power due to a failure in Coolmine.

A 21-year-old Co Louth man is in court today charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of two others in a collision in 2007. Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court heard that Daniel O'Riordan was speeding at the time of the accident, which the defendant denies.
