Ryanair Offers Rugby Fans Free Flights

Ryanair has offered to fly Munster rugby fans to Wales free for the Heineken Cup final later this month, following the revelation that a scheduled flight would not land in time for the game's kick-off.

The fans had booked seats on the airline's early morning flight from Dublin to Bristol on May 24 earlier this year in the hope that Munster would make it to the final. However, Ryanair had later rescheduled the flight so that the take-off would not be until the afternoon, meaning that they would not arrive in Cardiff for the kick-off.

However, the flight was later reinstated, but after Munster qualified for the final, so the prices had risen from less than €50 before taxes to nearly €230 euros due to the high demand.

Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said that the airline had not initially changed the flights in order to get extra money from passengers and that he offered the free return flights to fans affected by the change.

He said they should write to him at the airline's corporate head office in Dublin Airport by the end of this week.

However, the Irish government's National Consumer Agency has launched an investigation into the matter.
