Taxi Murder Accused Remanded

The man charged with the murder of a west Dublin taxi Driver has been remanded in custody for a further two weeks.

Carlos Byrne, 22, of Linnetsfield Square, Clonee, appeared before Cloverhill District Court this morning. No application for bail was made.

The man is accused of stabbing an off-duty taxi driver, 31 year-old Mark Smyth, in front of his partner and child.

The taxi driver had arrived at the scene and collected a couple, which were known to him before being stabbed whilst trying to escape the scene. Mr Smyth who lived in Duleek, Co Meath, was found dead in the garden of a house in the same street after the attack in the Fortlawn estate in Blanchardstown.

Carlos Byrne was remanded in custody to appear again on April 10th.

Couple Remanded Over Taxi Driver Murder
A man and woman, both in their 20s, are currently being questioned by gardaí, following the stabbing of an off-duty taxi driver in west Dublin. Mark Smyth, a 31-year-old taxi driver from the Hawthorns, Duleek, Co Meath was attacked in the Fortlawn estate on Tuesday night. He had been stabbed more than 20 times in the neck and chest.

Renewed Appeal Over Murder Of Taxi Driver
Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information on the murder of taxi driver Martin Mulligan. Mr Mulligan (53) was stabbed to death on 28 September following an altercation in Dundalk in Co Louth. It is believed the altercation began over an unpaid taxi fare.

Taxi Drivers March On Transport Department
A group representing Ireland's private taxi drivers is to stage a protest in Dublin today, it has been revealed. An Garda Siochana said they understood a protest would take place by the group who are calling themselves “The Irish Taxi Council” this afternoon. According to Irishtaxi.

A woman has been sentenced to five years in jail for robbing a taxi driver while threatening him with a syringe. The robbery occurred after the driver turned down her sexual advances. 30-year-old Mary Ward had propositioned the taxi driver, quoting him prices for various sexual acts. However when he declined it quickly became a robbery.
