NRA Insists Construction Work Is Not Damaging Monument
The National Roads Authority (NRA) is denying that construction work on the M3 motorway in Co Meath is damaging a national monument at Rath Luth.
Protestors against the road are claiming the work is destroying the ancient fort, and one campaigner has chained herself inside a tunnel dug into the hill.
This is preventing any construction work from going ahead and the Gardai are currently monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the NRA are saying the construction work is necessary in order to install a wall that will protect the monument.

Gormley Signs Order To Protect Tara Monument
Minister for Environment John Gormley has signed a temporary preservation order for the national monument in Tara Valley, Co Meath. Mr Gormley ordered an assessment over reports by opponents to the planned M3 route, that work had damaged the Rath Lugh fort, which lies nearby.

Despite the mass job losses already announced this year, the Minister for Education has proposed up to 3,300 construction jobs could be created this year. The Government's €900 million school building programme for 2009 has today been announced by TD Batt O'Keeffe and is expected to bring some much needed employment opportunities.

Carrickmacross Kerry Flood Plant Workers Stage 24-Hour Strike
Workers at a Kerry Foods plant in Co Monaghan have staged strike action in protest at an attempt to make 31 workers redundant without agreement. A 24-hour work stoppage took place at the factory from 7.30am in Carrickmacross on Tuesday, 06 March. SIPTU Organiser, Jim McVeigh, said a further two work stoppages will take place on 13 and 20 March.
