Polish Centre Embarks On An Initiative After Drimnagh Killings

The Board of the Polish Information and Culture has called for serious dialogue with immigrant-led organisations, the Gardaí and the Government following the murders of two Polish men last week.

Pawel Kalite, 26, and Marius Szwajkos, 27, both died after being stabbed in the head and throat with a screwdriver, apparently after refusing to buy alcohol for a gang of under-age youths in Drimnagh, south Dublin.

The board says what happened to the two migrant workers could have happened to anybody however they said racism cannot be ruled out as a possible motive for the assault on the Polish men.

The board said: "Even if this latest outrageous crime was not committed on xenophobic grounds it is our responsibility to initiate a serious dialogue with the immigrant-led organizations, Gardai, Government Departments."

A roundtable discussion will take place in the office of Polska Gazeta this afternoon.
