Jury Discharged In Kearney Trial

The jury in the trial of Brian Kearney for the alleged murder of his wife has been discharged.

It is understood that the decision was made because one of the members of the jury worked for the company that fitted the alarm system at the Kearney's home.

The system was fitted around 10 years ago and the jury member had only worked for the company for 18 months.

However, the jury of seven men and five women, which had been sworn in on Monday, was discharged by Mr Justice Barry White shortly before midday on Wednesday.

A new jury is due to be selected on Monday, when the trial is due to re-start.

Mr Kearney, 50, from Goatstown in Dublin, has denied murdering his 38-year-old wife Siobhan on February 28 2006.

Mrs Kearney's body was found in a bedroom in their house. She had been strangled.
