Belmullet Jobs At Risk
Fears have surfaced today that 70 jobs may be lost at a US multi-national in Co Mayo, as the firm prepares to make an announcement to staff on Monday. The ICT group employs 140 people at its European division in Belmullet. News of the impending announcement has raised fears that half the jobs may be at risk.
Calls To Beef Up Government Computer Security
Fine Gael has called on the Government to beef up its computer security after it was revealed that 80 departmental laptops have been lost or stolen in the past five years. Reports today reveal 12 laptops have been stolen from the Department of the Environment, while five have been taken from the Department of Social and Family Affairs and two were stolen from the Taoiseach's office last year.
Man Injured In Ballybrack Assault
A man has been assaulted at a service station in south Co Dublin. The incident took place shortly before 2.30am on Friday morning on the Military Road in Ballybrack. An investigation is under way. No arrests have been made.
ISME Urges Government To Resist Public Sector Pay Hikes
The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association has called on the Government to resist demands for public sector wage increases during the upcoming talks on a new national pay deal, in order to avoid pushing up inflation and creating a "cost-wage spiral".
Irish Mother And Daughter Leave Gaza
An Irish woman and her daughter have been allowed to leave Gaza through the Egyptian border following talks between Irish and Egyptian government officials. Treasa Ní Cheannabháin, her daughter, Naisrin Elsafty and her Egyptian niece, Seham Elhotty were previously refused permission to return to Egypt after illegally entering Gaza to distribute charity funds.
