Severed Hand Reattached As Accused Appears In Court

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court today charged in connection with a sword attack at a pub in north Dublin in which a man's hand was severed.

The court date comes on the same day as news that surgeons successfully reattached the victim's hand - cut off in the samurai sword attack.

The accused, Anthony Dowling, from Fortlawn Drive in Blanchardstown, west Dublin, appeared before Dublin District Court this morning. He was remanded on bail to appear before Dublin District Court next week.

The attack happened in the Deputy Mayor pub in Meakestown around 9.15pm on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old victim, Peter Rogers, from Ballymun, is now in a stable condition in hospital, after having the surgery to reattach the hand.

The incident happened after a row broke out in the pub, which led to two men coming back to the pub 30 minutes later.

Mr Rodgers was first struck by a hammer before a second man took out a sword and severed his hand.

It is understood that a man is still being sought by gardaí in connection with the attack.
