Microsoft Centre For Dublin

Computer company Microsoft has announced plans to establish a new European data centre in Dublin.

The company will invest 500 million euros in the 51,000 square metre centre, which will be situated in Grange Castle Business Park in Clondalkin.

Around 20 new jobs are expected to be created once the centre opens in the summer of 2009.

The centre will deliver Windows Live services and will store data for the company's other online services, such as MSN.

Microsoft has been established in Ireland since 1985 and employs more than 1,200 people.

Two Northern firms have excelled in what is the largest business competition on the island of Ireland - Seedcorn 2010. Run by InterTradeIreland, the organisation that supports small and medium-sized businesses across Ireland for better North/South trade and business development, it offers a total prize fund of €280,000.

160 Jobs Axed At Three Ireland
160 jobs are to be lost at telecoms firm Three Ireland following its acquisition of O2. 85 people are expected to be made redundant from the company's head office in Dublin and a further 75 from across the retail business. The company also said a number of fixed term contracts will not be renewed once they expire.

Dublin Bus Dispute Looms
A disagreement over working conditions may halt bus services to commuters next week. Dublin Bus passengers could face disruption from Monday due to the dispute with drivers. Dublin Bus wants drivers from Harristown depot to start, take breaks and terminate in the city centre rather than at the depot.
