Judgement Reserved In IRA Membership Case

A County Carlow man whose defence barrister has offered the Special Criminal Court an explanation for military-type material found in his home has been left awaiting the court’s decision on his case.

The 27 year-old defendant, Mark Doran of Poachers Lock, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, denies membership of the IRA on October 26th last year.

The court reserved judgement after hearing the defendant's barrister tell the court there was an innocent explanation for the military instruction manuals and the army clothing found in his bedroom.

He also commented that Mr. Doran was not before the court charged with having unpopular political beliefs.
