Clonmel Murder Accused In Court

A local man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 20-year-old woman in Clonmel, Co Tipperary on Tuesday.

Joanne Mangan died after she was stabbed in an attack at her home in Ballynamuddagh, near the village of Grange.

Her 23-year-old brother Eddie was also stabbed during the attack. He remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital.

Kevin Prendergast, 30, with an address in Knockeen, Grange in Clonmel, appeared before Cashel District Court on Wednesday morning, charged with Mrs Mangan's murder.

Mr Prendergast was also charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Mangan.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Clonmel District Court on October 23.

The house where the attack took place was sealed off for a technical examination yesterday and it is understood that investigators found a kitchen knife in a garden behind the house.

Man Due In Court Over Clonmel Death
A 28-year-old man is due to appear before a special sitting of Clonmel District Court, charged in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man whose body was found in a house in the town at the weekend. The man's body was found in an upstairs bedroom of a house in the Carrigeen estate shortly after 2:30am on Sunday.

A 28-year-old man has appeared in court in Co Tipperary charged with the murder of a man in Clonmel at the weekend. Alex Freiberg, of Bridgewater House, Clonmel, appeared before Clonmel District Court on Monday evening, charged with the murder of 45-year-old Kieran Cambridge.

Man Charged With West Cork Arson Attacks
A man has been charged with a series of arson attacks in Skibbereen, west Cork. 30-year-old Sean Byrne, of Bohernabreegha, Drimoleague, appeared at Clonakilty District Court accused of six separate arson attacks at a number of locations in Skibbereen.

Callely Court Date Set For Next Week
The next hearing of Ivor Callely's case against the Seanad Committee over his expenses claims has been scheduled for next Tuesday. Senator Callely took the proceedings after being suspended from the Seanad by the committee for 20 days over a number of allegedly fraudulent expense claims.
