Man Found Dead In Westmeath Is Named
A man found dead in a campervan at Lough Lene in County Westmeath on Thursday morning has been named as Thomas Canning, 42, from Summerhill.
A man, in his 20s, is being detained at Mullingar Garda Station in connection with the death under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held up to 9.00pm this evening.
Mr Canning’s body was found in his campervan close to the car park at Lough Lene in Collinstown at around 4.00am on Thursday morning.
A post mortem has revealed that Mr Canning died from internal injuries caused by a blunt force to the body and gardai have refused to comment on reports that he had also been strangled.
Gardai have made an appeal to the public for information in connection with the incident.

All-Ireland Single Surgical Children's Heart Unit Announced
Ministers from the north and south have agreed that paediatric heart surgery in Ireland will be focused in a single surgical centre in Dublin. The decision brings an end to the uncertainty of children's heart operations in the north, with Northern Ireland's Health Minister, Jim Wells, confirming the service would end in Belfast.

26-Year-Old Man Killed In Farming Accident
A man has been killed in a farming accident in Knockea, Co Cork. According to reports the 26-year-old man was found trapped under a trailer at around 12:45am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the death has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority.

Man Found Dead In Co Laois
An investigation has launched after a man was found dead at a house in County Laois. According to reports, the 54-year-old was discovered at the bottom of the stairs of a house in Rathdowney at around 10.30pm. The death is not being treated as suspicious and gardai are continuing to investigate.

Man Found Dead In Dublin Hotel
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a man found dead in a hotel room in Dublin yesterday. The man, believed to be in his 40s, had checked in to Bewleys Hotel Newlands Cross in Clondalkin on Tuesday night. He was found dead at about 3.15pm Wednesday afternoon.
