Burton To Run For Labour Deputy Leadership
Dublin West TD Joan Burton has announced her intention to run for the deputy leadership of the Labour party.
The party's finance spokesperson said that she had recognised that she did not have sufficient support to run for the leadership of the party.
Limerick East TD Jan O'Sullivan is also running for the deputy leadership post, while Cork South Central TD Ciaran Lynch is also considering running.
Eamon Gilmore, the party's environment spokesperson, is the only official candidate in the leadership race so far.
The Dun Laoghaire TD announced his intention to run on Tuesday.
Other possible contenders include Dublin North East TD Tommy Broughan and the acting leader Wicklow TD Liz McManus.
New Leas-Cheann Comhairle Brendan Howlin declared that he would not be running for the leadership on Monday.
Former party leader Pat Rabbitte announced his resignation last week after five years as party leader. He said that his reason for resigning last week was due to party's results in the recent general election and their failure to win any new seats, as well as a need for the party to modernise.
The process to elect a new leader is expected to last until mid-October, when party members will elect a new leader via postal ballot.

Gilmore To Run For Labour Leadership
Eamon Gilmore has announced his intention to run for leadership of the Labour Party. The Dun Laoghaire TD, who is the party's environment spokesperson, had previously run for the party's leadership in 2002. He is the first candidate to formally declare his intention to run for the leadership since former leader Pat Rabbitte's resignation last week.
