Crewman Airlifted From Fishing Boat

A crewman who sustained injuries onboard a French fishing vessel has been airlifted to hospital.

The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter rendezvoused with the fishing vessel around 240km off the south west coast yesterday night.

It is understood that the man sustained serious injuries following an accident onboard the vessel.

The discovery was made yesterday when an estimated total of 120kg of cannabis, contained in sealed packages, was caught up in the nets of an Irish fishing vessel, just off Galway bay.
