Man Held In Connection With Lanzarote Death

Police in Lanzarote investigating the death of Dereck Cumiskey have arrested a local man in connection with incident.

The 18-year-old from Dublin died during an attack on August 1 at the Canary Islands resort of Puerto del Carmen.

Mr Cumiskey, of Townsend Street in Dublin, was with two Irish friends aged 16 and 27 when he was attacked outside a restaurant at around 5.30am with an iron bar.

The friends of Mr Cumiskey told police that four men struck him several times with an iron bar and three men, believed to be in their 20s, are still being sought by the Spanish police.

However, an autopsy the following day showed that the blows he suffered had not killed Mr Cumiskey.

The pathologist was not able to immediately establish the exact cause of death and laboratory tests were ordered to be carried-out on a number of his organs.
