Uisce Éireann has introduced a Boil Water Notice for customers served by the Dunmore-Glenamaddy Public Water Supply and the Glenamaddy Public Water Supply to safeguard public health.

The notice affects approximately 2,134 customers on the Dunmore-Glenamaddy Public Water Supply and around 896 customers on the Glenamaddy Public Water Supply. It also applies to any Group Water Schemes supplied by these systems.

Customers should boil water before drinking, preparing drinks, brushing teeth, making ice, and washing salads or other foods that will not be cooked. Water is safe to consume once it has been boiled and cooled.

Guidance for households includes bringing water to a vigorous rolling boil and allowing it to cool before use; using boiled water when washing uncooked foods; and continuing to use tap water for washing, bathing and toilet flushing, but not for brushing teeth or gargling. Domestic water filters will not make water safe to drink. Extra care should be taken to ensure children do not swallow water during bathing, and care is advised when handling boiled water to avoid burns and scalds. Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann are working, in consultation with the Health Service Executive, to lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible. Providing an update, Uisce Éireann's Ger Greally, explained: "We know how important a safe and reliable water supply is to everyday life and we understand the inconvenience this notice will cause our impacted customers. Protecting public health is always our top priority. Our teams are on the ground doing everything possible to resolve the issue and restore normal water quality as quickly as possible. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while this notice is in place."

Customers can check if their property is affected by visiting the Water Quality section of water.ie and entering their Eircode, or by calling Uisce Éireann's 24/7 customer care team on 1800 278 278. A map of the impacted areas is available in the Supply and Service section of the website.
