Witness Appeal After Serious R169 Crash Between Dunleer And Collon, Co. Louth
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a truck and a car on the R169 between Dunleer and Collon, Co. Louth, at approximately 2.45pm today, Tuesday 11 August 2026.
The male driver of the truck was uninjured. The male driver of the car, who is in his 70s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Anyone who travelled on the R169 between 2.00pm and 2.45pm today and who may have witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam or other camera footage, is asked to come forward.
Information can be provided to Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

A large-scale programme to remove older backyard services and install modern, robust water mains is advancing throughout the town. As part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme, more than 1,200 homes in Drogheda are expected to benefit by year-end, alongside the installation of 5.6 kilometres of new water mains.

Treated water reserves on Inis Mór have fallen to critically low levels, prompting Uisce Éireann to extend restrictions across the island. Supply will be restricted from 5pm each day until 9am the following morning. The measures will apply to the entire island until further notice and are designed to protect daytime supplies of treated water.
