A €1.5 million Uisce Éireann project in the Shanganagh area of Shankill, Co Dublin, will boost water network capacity to support planned housing and business growth, with completion targeted by the end of 2026.

Uisce Éireann said the work forms part of a national programme of targeted investment to expand water infrastructure capacity and underpin social and economic development, including the delivery of essential housing.

The scheme will see 220 metres of new pipe installed beneath the M11 using tunnelling techniques to reduce disruption at road level. Works will be carried out at the end of Allies River Road, to the east and west of the motorway, with short, localised traffic management in place when required. GMC Utilities Ltd will deliver the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann. James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, welcomed the start of the project. "The commencement of this project is very welcome news for the Shankill community. Improvements in the supply capacity of the water network will bring tangible benefits and provide the required infrastructure to service existing and new developments in the area, including much-needed new housing as reflected in our new Housing Action Plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities.

"Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery. That is why in the recent Budget we have increased Uisce Éireann's funding by almost €500 million for 2026 - money that will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country."
