Sinn Féin has welcomed a decision by Dublin City Council to recognise Leanne Flynn for her bravery during the stabbing attacks on schoolchildren at Parnell Square on 23 November 2023.

Sinn Féin group leader on the council, Cllr. Daithí Doolan, said: "I am delighted to confirm that Dublin City Council has agreed to honour Leanne Flynn for the bravery and courage she showed during the horrific attacks on school children in Parnell Square on November 23rd 2023.

"There will be an event in autumn hosted by the Lord Mayor to express the city's gratitude to Leanne. "The safety of the school children was foremost in Leanne's mind. Protecting those children was her priority. She bravely and unselfishly put the welfare of others ahead of her own health and safety. Leanne put herself in danger to protect vulnerable children.

"During the attack Leanne herself was stabbed in the back. Her injuries were so serious she was hospitalised for a month and had emergency surgery.

"The bravery shown by Leanne was a ray of hope in those dark days that followed the attack.

"The cross-party support is a clear indication of the very high regard that Leanne is held in by everyone across the city and beyond."

Councillors adopted the following emergency motion: Dublin City Council calls on the Lord Mayor to honour Leanne Flynn in a manner that fully recognises the bravery and courage shown by Leanne during the horrific attacks on school children in Parnell Square on November 23rd 2023.
