Dublin City Council Establishes Five New Local Community Safety Partnerships

Dublin City Council has confirmed the rollout of five new Local Community Safety Partnerships (LCSPs) across its administrative areas, initiating a structural transition toward a collaborative, community-led safety model.

The newly established LCSPs officially replace the former Joint Policing Committees, which were dissolved following the enactment of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.

The partnerships are designed to bring together local residents, community organisations, An Garda Síochána, local services, and statutory agencies to identify and collectively address safety priorities. Over the coming months, the LCSPs will host a series of engagement opportunities, allowing residents and community groups to actively contribute to the development of a tailored Community Safety Plan for their specific Local Authority Area.

Welcoming the initiative, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam, said: "Community safety is not just about policing. It is about partnership. The establishment of these five Local Community Safety Partnerships marks a new chapter for Dublin, where residents, Gardaí, community groups and public services sit around the same table and take shared responsibility for safer neighbourhoods.

"If we want a Living City, people must feel secure in their homes. If we want an Active City, families must feel confident using our parks and streets. And if we want an Engaged City, communities must have a real voice in shaping solutions. These Partnerships give Dubliners that voice. This is about prevention, early intervention and practical action on the issues that matter locally. I strongly encourage residents and community organisations to get involved in shaping their Community Safety Plans in the months ahead."

Following their appointment, the five new Chairpersons and their respective Coordinators attended a national meeting hosted by the National Office of Community Safety on 27 May in Athlone. The forum brought together LCSP representatives from across Ireland to facilitate strategic discussions, share innovative ideas, and build collaborative networks to advance their shared safety goals.

The appointed Chairpersons for the five Dublin administrative areas are:

• Dublin North Central Local Community Safety Partnership – Chairperson: Councillor John Lyons

• Dublin Northwest Local Community Safety Partnership – Chairperson: Sinead Fitzsimons Johnston

• Dublin South Central Local Community Safety Partnership – Chairperson: Councillor Daithí Doolan

• Dublin Southeast Local Community Safety Partnership – Chairperson: Councillor Dermot Lacey

• Dublin Central Local Community Safety Partnership – Chairperson: Councillor Cieran Perry
