Multi-Agency Operation Targets Wildlife Crime in Limerick City
Gardaí in Limerick have carried out a joint search operation targeting the illegal trapping and possession of wild birds in Limerick City.
The multi-agency operation was conducted under warrant on Wednesday 27 May 2026 at a premises in the St. Mary’s Park area. The search was led by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), alongside the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), Limerick Dog Warden Services, and local Gardaí. During the course of the operation, a male Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) was recovered and surrendered to NPWS operatives.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding wildlife crime to come forward. Reports can be made by contacting any local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. In an emergency, members of the public should dial 999 or 112.
Confidential reports can also be submitted directly to the National Parks and Wildlife Service by emailing [email protected].

Police were carrying out a dig at the nature reserve today after an unrelated search for unmarked babies' graves uncovered further, unexpected human remains.

Three Arrested In Waterford In Operation Thor Operation
Three men have been arrested in Co Waterford as part of Operation Thor, an ongoing national anti-crime initiative. The men were arrested on Thursday evening when garda stopped a car in Tramore. They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tramore and Waterford Garda Stations.

35 Arrests Made In Four-Day Operation Thor Investigation
Gardaí have made 35 arrests during a four-day operation aimed at preventing crime, disrupting criminal activity and enhancing community engagement in the Kilkenny-Carlow Division. As a result of Operation Thor – 'Project Storm' 10 people have been charged and will appear at local sittings of Carlow and Kilkenny District Court in the coming weeks.

Illegal Cigarettes And Tobacco Seized In Dublin
Almost 5,000 cigarettes and 9.5kg of rolling tobacco have been seized by Revenue officers in the Moore Street area of Dublin. Officers carried out the search assisted by garda, in an intelligence led operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of cigarettes and tobacco in the city.
