Water Supply Remains Up To Standard

Uisce Éireann has reassured customers supplied by the Vartry Water Treatment Plant in parts of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and North Wicklow that their drinking water continues to meet regulatory standards.

Customers within these areas reported intermittent taste and odour issues, however, Uisce Éireann confirmed there is no issue in the Vartry Water Treatment Plant where drinking water received full chlorination and ultraviolet disinfection before entering supply.

This means it does not contain any harmful bacteria, viruses or protozoa. To date, all chemical and biological results are compliant with legislative requirements. Additional sampling programmes are continuing.

A statement from Uisce Éireann said: "We are currently investigating the source of the intermittent taste and odour issues and continue to test the water in an effort to determine the root cause. Customers experiencing taste or odour issues can find out more information by visiting our unusual taste or smell page.

Uisce Éireann advises customers not to drink discoloured water and in the event of discolouration, running the tap for several minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour.

The water is safe to drink once running clear but if the issue remains unresolved, customers are encouraged to contact Uisce Éireann directly.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact them on X @IWCare with any queries or concerns.
