Health Services Needs The Executive
The Executive must be formed immediately to invest an extra £1 billion to start to fix the problems in the health service.
Making the call, Sinn Féin health spokesperson Colm Gildernew said: "Reports that pressures in our health service had led to 300 more deaths than expected this year are staggering and underlines the urgent need to get the Executive up and running and for all parties to work together to make health the priority.
"How much longer will the DUP sit on the sidelines and continue to boycott government while people suffer on waiting lists and our health service continues to feel the pressure?
"We will meet the health minister next week on the urgent need to recruit more doctors and nurses, cut waiting lists and to properly invest in our cancer and mental health services.
"Sinn Féin is ready to form an Executive today, to work with others, and start to fix our health service by investing an extra £1 billion and securing a three-year Budget."

Budget 2018 will deliver better access, more help for families and more supports for disability, mental health, and older and vulnerable people, Minister Simon Harris and Ministers of State Finian McGrath, Jim Daly and Catherine Byrne have said. An additional €646 million in current expenditure is being allocated to Health in Budget 2018.

The government has been urged to fund better mental health services for students following a survey that revealed one third of college students are experiencing anxiety and mental health issues. The Union of Students of Ireland report found that 38% of students experienced severe levels of anxiety.

Allowance Payment Agreement Reached For Mental Health Nurses
A payment schedule for a community allowance for mental health nurses has been secured by SIPTU nursing representatives. The agreement was made at talks between the union and HSE management at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on Tuesday, 16 August.

Funding taken from the mental health budget must be paid back, Labour TD Jan O'Sullivan has said. Deputy O'Sullivan made the call while speaking in a Dáil debate on mental health, where she said that €12m taken from the mental health budget this year, could not be allowed to fall into "the black hole of the general Health budget".
