Three fishermen have been rescued after their trawler caught fire 30 miles off the coast of County Wicklow yesterday afternoon, Thursday 02 May.

Lifeboat crews from Arkow and Wicklow RNLI responded to the emergency shortly before 4pm, evacuating the men from the 14-metre vessel.

One of the men was airlifted to hospital for observation while the others received care on the RNLI lifeboat.

The vessel later sank despite efforts to extinguish the fire by a tug boat.
