New Bill Aims To Criminalise 'Revenge Porn'

A new law is to be brought before the Cabinet aimed at tackling the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.

The original Bill was drafted by Labour leader Brendan Howlin, based on a 2016 report by the Law Reform Commission.

The new legislation will be presented to Cabinet at a meeting in Cork's City Hall, by the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan, who will seek ministerial approval to draft amendments to Mr Howlin's Private Members' Bill.

This legislation seeks to create offences for the non-consensual distribution of intimate images with intent to cause harm or distress - including so-called "revenge porn" and "upskirting".
