New Climate Action Teacher Resource Launches

A new Climate Action teacher resource is to be made available to all post-primary schools from today, 27 March, the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Richard Bruton T.D. has announced.

Announcing the new resource, Minister Bruton said: "This resource, developed by the Green Schools team, will help 'bring climate action into the classroom', providing schools with lesson plans; presentations; surveys and data, to learn and discuss, what is the biggest issue of our time.

"This is an area where we need to step up our response. Young people have shown their interest and their passion. We need to make sure that the curriculum is there so that they can learn in a more structured way."

Speaking at the launch, Green-Schools Climate Action Officer Gráinne Ryan also said: "I hope this resource equips not only Geography teachers but also C.S.P.E., Science and English teachers with the tools and guidance to explore climate through their curriculum."

Green-Schools Manager, Cathy Baxter added: "Green-Schools thanks all the teachers that have worked so hard on this programme over so many years. We hope resources like this can provide some support to them in their critical work with students."

John Mulcahy, Chair of Cork Geography Teachers Association, welcomed the launch of the Climate Action Resource: "We welcome this new resource from Green-Schools for its focus on Climate Change and its active learning approach; it is full of ideas for classroom discussion and actions designed to engage students in coming to grips with the central issue of our age."
