Gardaí Probing Two Deaths At Midlands Prison

An investigation has been launched into the deaths of two prisoners in the space of 10 days at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.

The first inmate died some time between the evening of Sunday 27 January and the following morning.

Another prisoner was found dead in his cell on Tuesday 05 February.

Gardaí are probing the deaths along with the Irish Prison Service and the Inspector of Prisons.

23% Drop In Burglaries Between November And December - Gardaí

Two men have been arrested and detained after gardaí discovered a cannabis grow house in County Leitrim. 90 plants in the early stages of growth, a kilogram of cannabis herb, cultivation equipment and 50 fully mature cannabis plants were seized from the premises. The drugs had an estimated street value of €60,000.

Gardaí Appeal For Help Tracing Man Missing From Limerick
Gardaí have appealed for information about a man reported missing from Limerick City. 47-year-old Michael Hyland was last seen leaving his apartment on Parnell Street at around 5am on Saturday morning, 06 April. He is described as around 5'10" in height, of medium build, with brown eyes and brown hair.

Gardaí Seeking Help Tracing Missing Teenager
Gardaí have appealed for help finding a missing teenager who disappeared while making his way to school in Dublin on Monday morning, 08 April. Fifteen-year-old Daniel Devaney was last seen when leaving his home in Terenure at around 8.30am. He is described as around 6'3" in height, of medium build, with green eyes and blonde hair.

Labour Urge Govt To Up Local Gardaí Numbers
The Labour Party has issued a call for government to increase the number of gardaí officers patrolling local communities. It comes after a shooting in Belcamp, north Dublin on Friday 05 April when a man sustained non life-threatening injuries. Councillor Alison Gilliland said the incident shows the urgent need for more gardaí in such areas.
