Flu Season To Continue For 'At Least Six Weeks'
The winter flu is set to continue making its way through the country for "at least the next six weeks".
The news is according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) whose figures show a drop in the most recent number of cases.
Despite the extended period, the body said that overall influenza activity decreased slightly across the nation in the past week.
Rates have fallen from 43.2 per 100,000 during week three of 2019 to 40.6 per 100,000 population during week four.
It also decreased in those aged 65 and over, however there was an increase in children, aged five to 14 years, being struck down by the flu.
The HSPC has urged people in high-risk groups to get vaccinated, which is available free of charge from GP's and pharmacists for those over 18 in high-risk groups.
