Man Arrested After Producing Firearm And Device At Dublin Court

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident involving a firearm and suspected explosive device at the family law court in Dublin.

On Thursday a hearing was underway when a man in the court produced a firearm and "a device".

It is understood that a garda office at the court, but not in the hearing, was alerted to the situation and called in an armed response unit.

When armed officers arrived and entered the courtroom – which contained the man, his wife, a judge, registrar and barristers – the suspected dropped the firearm and surrendered. The firearm was later found to imitation.

The man was arrested and the court building evacuated, while army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the suspected explosive device. It has been taken for forensic examination.

There are no reports of any injuries. The Courts Service said that "all staff, members of the public, and judges left the building safety".
