Man Arrested Over Fatal House Fire Released Without Charge

A man arrested in connection with a fatal house fire in Dublin has been released without charge.

A 44-year-old man died in the blaze which happened at a property on Oakland's Terrace, Rathgar, at around 3am on Tuesday, 21 August.

It is understood the man had escaped from the fire before returning inside and suffered critical injuries.

He was pronounced dead at St James Hospital.

Three people who were in the property escaped without injury.

The man was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

An elderly man has died in a fire at a house in Kilkenny city, early this on Wednesday morning. The fire broke out at around 4.20am. Four other people were in the house also, but it is understood that they escaped injury. Gardaí are investigating the incident and have preserved the scene for examination.

Investigation Launched Following Suspicious Fire In Co Offaly
Gardai have launched an investigation following a suspicious fire at a house in Rhode, Co. Offaly on Monday. The incident occurred between 11.30pm on Sunday and 1.50am on Monday. A 24-year-old man sustained serious injuries and has been transferred to St James Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

Driver Arrested After Gun Find
A 25-year-old man was arrested in Dublin yesterday after a gun was found in the car he was driving, garda have said. The car was stopped and searched at about 5.30pm on North Circular Road by gardai on patrol. Officers found a firearm and other implements in the car.

Two For Court Over Kildare Heroin
Two men are due to appear in court today, charged in connection with the discovery of €2.4 million of heroin in Kildare yesterday. Around 12g of the drug was discovered after gardaí stopped and searched a number of cars off the Naas Road at Kill. Four men, three aged in their 20s and one aged 51, were arrested at the scene.
