St Patrick's Mental Health Services Workers Vote For Strike Action
SIPTU members working in St Patrick's Mental Health Services have voted in favour of strike action in a dispute resulting from a management decision to cease employer contributions to a staff defined benefit pension scheme.
SIPTU Organiser, Aideen Carberry said: "The ballot, which was concluded this afternoon, shows how determined our membership is to resolve this dispute. The fact that 98% of our members are willing to take strike action shows their commitment and determination to achieve justice.
"This result clearly demonstrates that our members are not willing to accept a scenario where their employer makes important decisions pertaining to their lives, without consultation or negotiation with their union."
She added: "In March, members of the St Patrick's Mental Health Services staff defined benefit pension scheme were advised that the employer would be ceasing contributions and would transfer its funds to a defined contribution scheme. There was no discussion with the workers' unions concerning this closure, a position which is completely unacceptable to our members."
The Group of Unions in St Patrick's Mental Health Services will meet today, Thursday, 27 April, to discuss the result of the ballot and decide on their next course of action.

SIPTU Health Members Consider Strike Action Over Ongoing Delays
SIPTU health members are to ballot over possible strike action in a dispute over a job evaluation scheme. The union said the strike action is being considered due to delays as a result of the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health setting a conclusive date for the reintroduction of a job evaluation scheme.
