Call for HSE To Publish Audits To Restore Confidence In Sector
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has been urged to publish audits it carried out on 27 charities in an effort to ensure greater transparency.
Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Marc Mac Sharry said that confidence in the charity sector has suffered following on from the revelations about Console, and he wants to see this restored.
"There are hundreds of charities across this country which provide excellent services to vulnerable people and we must ensure that these organisations are protected. The scandal at console risks damaging their reputations, as well as that of the charity sector as a whole," Minister Mac Sherry said.
"The HSE has carried out audits on 27 charities which are in receipt of taxpayers' money; however they have failed to publish the findings to date. The HSE needs to reveal what organisations were audited as well as outlining if any issues were uncovered. It is extremely important that the HSE publishes these audits so that the public is fully aware of how their money is being spent.
"I would also like the Government to act without delay in commencing Section 4 of the Charities Act so that the Regulator will have the necessary powers of investigation and enforcement to ensure that these spending controversies can be prevented into the future. It is also imperative that the Minister assign the necessary resources and supports to the Regulator so that it can carry out its brief effectively."

Investigation Into Church Care Inquiry Suspended

HSE Considers Alternative Location For Village Primary Care Centre
The HSE is considering an alternative location for the Clondalkin Village Primary Care Centre, Sinn Féin's Eoin Ó Broin has said. Deputy Ó Broin said he has received correspondence from the HSE which said it was reconsidering the location following a decision of HSE's private partners to put their land on the Boot Road up for sale.

A leading Dublin hospital has revealed a plans for major reforms over how it operates with immediate effect, after coming under intense criticism for failing to inspect thousands of x-rays. In a statement, Tallaght Hospital said its board had accepted proposals from Chairman Lyndon MacCann at a full board meeting last night.

The HSE is to receive an additional €35m for mental health services, according to its 2015 National Service Plan (NSP) published today. Budget 2015 provides for the delivery of health and social care services within the funding allocation of €12.131bn net revenue budget.

The HSE areas are Dublin Mid-Leinster, Dublin North East, South and West. Last month the HSE published its national service plan, which detailed how it will spend its budget of €13.4bn and make savings of over €721m.
