Irish Airlines Urged To Lower Prices To Allow Fans To Make Their Way To Euro 2016 Match
Fine Gael has appealed to Irish airlines to reduce their prices to allow as many Irish fans as possible make Sunday's Euro 2016 game in Lyon.
Making the call, Senator Ray Butler, said: "The one-nil win over Italy in the European Championships was magnificent and a proud moment for every Irish person. I want to congratulate the Irish team on their amazing performance and the outstanding result.
"Our Irish fans also did us proud last night and over the past two weeks. Their behaviour and sense of fun has promoted our country around the world. Fáilte Ireland could not have paid for all this amazing publicity.
"Now there is a responsibility on Irish airlines to keep the costs of travelling to the game on Sunday down.
"As the hunt begins for match and travel tickets for Sunday's knockout game against hosts France, I'm pleading with Ryanair and Aer Lingus to please reduce their prices and let the ordinary person go to the match.
"Put the green jersey on Aer Lingus and Ryanair, reduce your prices and don't let the ordinary man be priced out of the market.
"We must ensure the great Irish fans, who have done us all proud, are not exploited with high fares."

Food & Drink Exports Increase By 12%
According to new figures released today by Bord Bia, the value of Irish food and drink exports increased by 12%, or €1 billion, in 2011 to reach an all-time high of €8.85 billion. For the first nine months of the year, food and drink exports increased at three times the rate of total merchandise exports.
