Eight Million Contraband Cigarettes Seized In Wexford

Approximately eight million illegal cigarettes have been seized by Revenue officers during an operation in Wexford.

The cigarettes had arrived into Dublin Port from Vietnam via Rotterdam on Friday 10 June in a container which was consigned as 'Garden Furniture'.

The contraband cigarettes, branded "Aroma", have a retail value in excess of €4.2 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €3.3 million.

The seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing enforcement operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products and brings the total number of cigarettes seized so far this year to more than 36 million.

Revenue is appealing for anyone with information to contact the Revenue confidential line at 1800 295 295.

On Wednesday, 12 October, the cigarettes were detected, with the help of detector dog Casey, in five pallets which were marked as 'catering equipment' and had arrived into Dublin from the Netherlands.

19,000 Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Airport
Revenue officers at Dublin Airport have seized 19,000 'Marlboro' brand cigarettes inside the luggage of a man arriving on a flight from Chisnau, via Istanbul. The contraband cigarettes were uncovered by detector dog "Lottie", and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €7,000.
