Enda Kenny Is Elected Taoiseach

Enda Kenny has been elected taoiseach of the Irish parliament, 70 days after the country's general election took place.

With support from a number of Independents, Mr Kenny was elected by 59 votes to 49 in the Dáil on Friday afternoon.

It was the fourth attempt by the Dáil to elect a taoiseach since Ireland's election 10 weeks ago.

Earlier this week, Fine Gael and Independent TDs entered talks to discuss a draft programme for government.
