O'Higgins Commission Submits Final Report On Allegations Made By Garda Sergeant

The O'Higgins Commission of Investigation has produced its final report into allegations made by Garda Sergeant, Maurice McCabe.

The Commission was established in February 2015 and tasked with investigating confidence in the Garda Síochána and the criminal justice system and specifically, certain matters relative to the Cavan/Monaghan Division of the Garda Síochána and related issues.

The report was presented to the Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald, on Monday.

The Minister is examining the report and consulting with the Attorney General with a view to arranging for publication as soon as possible in accordance with the provisions of the Commissions of Investigation Act 2004.

Minister Fitzgerald said:"I wish to express my gratitude to Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins and his team for the promptness with which the Commission concluded its challenging work."

Garda Arrested In Connection With Sexual Assault
A garda has been arrested by Garda Ombudsman Commission investigators and is being questioned about a sexual attack. The garda has been suspended by the Garda Commissioner and is being detained at Loughrea Garda Station. He is the first member of the force to be arrested by the Garda Ombudsman.
