FF And FG Accused Of 'Sham Fight Over Forming A Govt'
Sinn Féin has accused Fine Gael and Fianna Fail of "engaging in a sham fight over forming a government".
Speaking in New York before travelling to Washington DC to attend the Speakers' Lunch and visit to the White House, Mr Adams said: "The two largest conservative parties are using the bogus excuse of civil war divisions and politics as each tries to outflank the other to get the spoils of government positions and power.
"The claim of civil war divisions doesn't stand up to scrutiny. In local councils across the state Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have already been working together in grand coalitions for years.
"Outside of the Dáil the desire to monopolise key positions in local councils and to exclude Sinn Féin and others has long seen Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil set aside personality and political differences and enter into grand coalitions. The two parties control 11 of the 31 local councils.
"The excuse of civil war politics has no validity. As we saw in the Dáil on Thursday - when Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Labour voted against a Sinn Féin motion to debate the scrapping of water charges - the establishment will join together when their self-interest demands."

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has called on Fianna Fáil to "join the effort to scrap punitive bin charge hikes." Mr Adams made the call ahead of a Dáil debate on the issue. "Many people are only now adjusting to the reality that Fine Gael are back in Government; despite the result of the general election," he said.
