INMO Data Reveals Over 500 Patients Waiting On Trolleys

Over 500 patients are either on trolleys in hospital emergency departments or on wards waiting for beds, according to new figures.

Data collected by the Irish Nurses and Midwives' Organisation (INMO) revealed there are a total of 544 patients waiting.

The worst affected, University Hospital Limerick, has 49 patients waiting, while St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin has 47 and St Lukes Hospital in Kilkenny with 36.

The highest figure this year was 558 waiting patients on 05 January.

The overcrowding problem has been an issue of contention between the INMO and hospital management in the past.

Planned strike action by nurses at seven hospitals over understaffing and overcrowding was deferred last month.
