Witnesses Sought To Fatal Road Accident In Co Mayo

Gardaí in Mayo have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Ballyhaunis late on Wednesday night.

A 45-year-old pedestrian died after he was hit by a car at Grallagh shortly before midnight on 16 December.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital for Post Mortem examination. No other persons were injured.

The scene of the incident is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and traffic diversions are in place. The local Coroner has been notified.

Last Thursday, garda discovered the body of a man, aged in his 60s, at Clonee, Tuosist, following reports of a "possible road traffic collision" off the main Kenmare to Castletownbere Road.

Driver Killed In Mayo Crash Named
The male driver killed in a traffic collision in County Mayo yesterday has been named by Gardai this morning. Peter Meenan a 61-year-old from Ballyhaunis, in Mayo was killed in a road collision that occurred between 2.30pm and 2.45pm on the main Claremorris to Ballyhaunis road (N60) at the townland of Cuilmore.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.
