Community Text Alert Scheme Launches In Co Dublin
A new community text alert initiative has been launched in Co Dublin.
The Rush Community Text Alert System (CTAS) was unveiled on 08 December and will be used as part of the Community Council's efforts to prevent crime.
The scheme's launch was welcomed by Sinn Féin candidate for Dublin Fingal Louise O'Reilly.
Ms O'Reilly said: "The new Scheme will provide an added dimension to the people of Rush and its surrounding areas in the assisting Gardai in the fight against Crime.
"The 01- 8020510 number allows for people to report any suspicious activity, with 999 remaining the primary contact number when reporting crime."
However, Ms O'Reilly stated the initiative cannot replace the need for a functioning Garda Station in the town.
"The closure of the station by the current Government that was preceded by the moratorium on recruitment by the previous Fianna Fáil Government, put inordinate pressure on Garda Resources in the area," she said.
"We absolutely need more Gardaí on the ground in the area ad this view has been echoed by the Garda Inspectorate report, which recommends that up to 1,000 officers could be freed up for core policing duties.
"Sinn Féin is committed to campaigning for the re-opening of Rush Garda Station."
