New An Post Chair Announced

Mr Dermot Divilly has been approved as the new Chairperson of An Post for the next five years.

Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Alex White, obtained Government approval for the appointment.

Minister White said: "An Post is one of the most recognised and respected brands in Ireland, with a foothold in communities across the entire country. The company will benefit from Mr Divilly's extensive senior-level management and financial experience, which will enable him to lead An Post as it meets the challenges of a changing communications landscape."

Woman Arrested Over Kerry Post Office Raid
A woman has been arrested in connection with an armed raid at a post office in Co Kerry. The suspect was arrested at around 5.30pm in Killarney on Thursday, 04 August. A sum of cash was stolen from Waterville Post Office at around 11am on Wednesday, 03 August. Two men were arrested in the area after the incident.

Farmers Light Fire Under Minister For Turf-Cutters
The chairman of Ireland's largest farming union has called on the Minister for Heritage to improve the offer to farmers being forced to cease turf cutting. The Irish Farmer's Association Project Chairman Padraic Divilly made the appeal to Minister Jimmy Deenihan as farmers in 51 designated SAC bogs are told to stop cutting.

Sinn Féin Call On Public To Respond To Post Office Consultation
Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has called on Post Office users, particularly in rural areas, to respond to the governments consultation on the interim report on Post Offices published by Minister Alex White. The Louth TD made the call after meeting with two Post Office owners to discuss the impact of government policy.

An Post Accused Of Failing to Meet Targets
Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has accused An Post of falling "significantly" short of its 94% next-day delivery target. The Communications Minister made the announcement, as it was revealed the Irish postal sector may be forced to pay hefty fines for failing to meet the targets.

FF Slams Minister For Social Protection Over 'Reluctance' To Take Up Post
Fianna Fáil has hit out at the Minister for Social Protection over her "reluctance" to take up the post. Spokesperson on Social Protection Deputy Willie O'Dea accused Minister Joan Burton of "reacting very negatively" when she was offered the Social Protection Portfolio and said she was interested in becoming Minister for Foreign affairs.
