Appeal For Witnesses Following Fatal Assault In Co Cork

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a fatal assault in the Mayfield area of Cork on Monday morning.

The body of a 60-year-old woman was discovered in a house on Murmount Avenue, Montenotte, at around 8pm on Monday. A man, also aged in his 60's, was been taken to Mercy University Hospital Cork however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

One man in his mid 20's was arrested at scene and is currently being detained at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

According to reports, it is thought the two men got into a fight with a third man on the ground of the hospital earlier today (23 October). Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a knife attack in Cork city in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is understood that a 38-year-old man was stabbed three times outside a house at Croaghtamore Square in Glasheen, in the southside of the city, at about 01:30 on Sunday. One of the stab wounds pierced the man's heart.

Man Assaulted at Mayfield
A man assaulted outside a Cork pub on Friday evening remains in a critical condition. The man is reported to be Miah Dennehy a former Cork Hibernian soccer player. He was attacked outside the Fob and Gill pub in Mayfield in the north of Cork city on Friday evening.

Gardaí Appeal For Information Following Cork Shooting
Garda have appealed to the public for information following the shooting of a 20-year-old man in Cork. The shooting happening at around 23:30 on Friday 19 July in the Fairhill area of Cork City and the man was taken to Cork University Hospital. A forensic and technical examination of the scene was carried out on Saturday morning.

Gardai in Gurranabraher have appealed for information on the whereabouts of David Mannix, who has been missing since Saturday 12 December. 50-year-old Mr Mannix was last seen at Bakers Road, Gurranabraher, Cork at about 09:30. Gardai are appealing for information into the death of a man in Co. Cork. The body of Peter Murphy, 37 years old, was discovered at his home at Shanavoher, Bweeng, Co. Cork on 7 February 2015. A post mortem examination carried out at Cork University Hospital established that Mr Murphy's injuries were inflicted as the result of an assault.
