Ten People Dead Following Fire At Travellers' Site In Dublin

Ten people, including five children, have died in a fire at a travellers' site in Ireland on Saturday.

The blaze occurred at a site in Carrickmines, south of Dublin.

The ten people have have not officially been named by gardai, however they have been named locally.

The victims were Willie Lynch and Tara Gilbert, their two daughters Kelsey and Jodie, Thomas and Sylvia Connors and their children Jim, Christy and six-month-old Mary.

Jimmy Lynch, 39, a brother of Willie, also died in the fire.

Two adults and two children are currently being treated at St Vincent's and Tallaght Hospitals.

It is believed the fire started at the site at around 4.30am.

Environment Minister Alan Kelly said: "It is with shock and the deepest regret that we have learned of the tragedy in Carrickmines which has claimed the lives of a number of members of a family from the travelling community.

"On behalf of the Government I want to extend our prayers and deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased and their extended community. 
We await further information from the site on this unfolding tragedy.

"I would like to thank the emergency services and An Garda Síochána for their initial work in the midst of this tragedy."

Post-mortem examinations of the remains have been carried out but it is expected to be a number of days before they are officially identified.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.
