Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael Kitt To Retire

Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael Kitt is to retire from politics at the next general election.

Galway East TD Colm Keaveney described Mr Kitt as a "true gentleman".

He said: "He is an honest, hard working and generous public representative who has remained utterly dedicated to representing the people of Galway East with dignity and respect. I have enjoyed working alongside him in the constituency and in the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party and I have learned a great deal from him.

"I want to wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement."

Michael Kitt, Teachta Dala for Galway East has been appointed to the position of Leas Cheann Comhairle for the 31st Dáil. Deputy Kitt will be responsible for presiding impartially and with authority over the business and proceedings of Dáil Éireann in the absence of the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Barrett TD.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Dies At Donegal Rally
Tributes have been paid to Donegal Fianna Fáil Councillor Manus Kelly who died while competing at the Donegal International Rally. The motor racing champion, who had won the event for the last three years, was killed after his Hyundai i20 R5 left the road on stage 15 of Sunday's race.

Immediate Action Urged In Driving Licence Issue Delays
Immediate action has been called for to tackle an 8 week delay in the processing of new driving licences. Raising the issue with the Dáil, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport, Timmy Dooley, said that it was unacceptable motorists had to wait so long for their driving licences.
