New Luas Line Works Begin

Work on the new €368m Luas Cross City project has gotten underway beginning on Dublin's O'Connell Street.

The works include:

• Track laying;

• Installing new paving, drainage and ducting along the alignment;

• The erection of Overhead Catenary System (OCS) poles and the fitting of building fixings;

• The building of new stops and extending of old to accommodate the future 53.5 metre trams;

• The construction of a new depot building, sanding shed and wash plant in Broombridge;

• The rebuilding of a railway line in Broadstone railway cutting.

The National Transport Authority warned of disruptions for motorists throughout the works.

The government's failure to commit to a Minor Works Scheme for schools is resulting in higher back-to-school costs for parents, Fianna Fáil has claimed. According to the party's Education Spokesperson Charlie McConalogue, schools are being forced to increase the voluntary contributions asked of parents in order to just keep the school running.

300 New Jobs Announced At Adare Manor
A total of 300 new jobs are to be created at Adare Manor, a hotel and golf resort in County Limerick. The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell-O'Connor, made the announcement at an event at the resort alongside Patrick O'Donovan, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, local representatives and friends of Adare Manor.

Kerry Hospital's New A&E Underway
Construction on the new emergency department at Kerry General Hospital has begun. According to Kerry North Fianna Fáil TD Thomas McEllistrim, the building contractors, BAM Building Ltd, have moved onto the site and preliminary ground works have commenced.
